The Barbie you never knew you needed

Quiet day today, one of those days where I didn't even get out the proper camera, just used my phone.  But don't worry, there's still photos coming.  Mostly of Barbies.  I'll explain.  Our morning started with a trip to the underground mall.   Supposedly it's 30kms long.  We found an entrance through a metro station and initially were a bit disappointed.  We came across a mall map that showed just one small loop.  However in one corner we found a set of doors that led on to another tunnel with a few more shops, then it opened out into more.  That just kept happening.  Everytime we thought it was the end there would be another section.  The highlights were, a lindt store with probably 20 different flavours, a toy store with a great collection of board games and a Barbie exhibition.  From what I could translate from the French it was fundraising for the Make a Wish Foundation.  There was a Barbie for every occasion.

And.. the Barbie everyone has been missing...

GINGER BARBIE.  Four Barbies dressed in "Irish" clothing, all red heads.

Lunch was a Montreal bagel, which did taste different to a New York bagel as promised and was very good (no Chris it's not as big a thing as the New York bagel, yes it is a thing, deal with it).  Another thing ticked off the list.  Tim Horton's is up next.  At some point.

The afternoon was a visit to the McCord Museum and a bus out to the suburbs to check out a couple of book shops.  The museum was quite small with only had one permanent exhibit and two other exhibits, one of which was just one room of works by a particular artist.  The other temporary exhibit was really good, it was about the Haida native Canadians from British Columbian, featuring a number of tools and artworks.  A hauntingly familiar story of getting decimated by small pox, having their land stolen and their culture outlawed.  It was surprising how recent it was that they fixed some of those laws and gave them the right to vote in federal elections (1969?!).  A sobering but interesting afternoon.

Tomorrow is our last day in Montreal, we're on a train out of here in the evening.  It's supposed to be a clear day but 10 degrees colder than the last couple of days so that'll be interesting.
